    • BB-232MSS2

      Model BB-232MSS2, RS-232 4-Port Mini-Smart Switch/Port Combiner, allows one RS-232 host device to connect to up to four RS-232 devices. Model BB-232MSS2 can function as a software and/or hardware controlled switch. There are four LEDs that indicate which port is connected to the master port. The master port can be configured as a DTE or DCE port by an internal switch setting (see datasheet). If the master port is configured as a DTE port, the four slave ports automatically become DCE ports. Handshake lines DSR and DTR are connected together and are not passed through to the master port. There is no delay through the device and data is not buffered. The communication format is set via dipswitch 1 (SW1 - see datasheet). NOTE: The data format and rates mentioned are used to switch Model BB-232MSS2. Communication between the devices can use any format or data rate. NOTE: Power supply required, not included, sold separately.

      Model 232UDS, universal serial data splitter, can be connected so that any two RS-232 devices can connect to any one RS-232 device. For example, two computers can share the same modem or serial printer at the same time and each can remain connected at all times. The other pins must be programmed for proper direction of data flow. Model 232UDS can function as either an modem data splitter or a printer data splitter. It allows you to switch select which lines are OR’d together and which lines are passed straight through. This unit is self-powered from the RS-232 line and can be left permanently installed.

      The 232LB9R is a 9-pin RS-232 repeater that re-transmits all 8 signals and carries the ground line through. Many computers, laptops and some desktops ship with low-power versions of RS-232 ports that are unable to drive port-powered devices or full-length RS-232 cabling. The 232LB9R can amplify these weak signals up to the RS-232 Standard for uses such as running port powered devices. It is also ideal for extending full-powered RS-232 cable runs beyond the typical 15 to 30 meters (50 to 100 feet) distance. An external power supply is required (not included, sold separately).

      Model 232DRIO provides a low-cost, easy to use solution for RS-232 serial port to discrete relay output applications. It offers one optically isolated input and two relay outputs. The General Purpose Control Module can be used to sense external ON/OFF conditions and to control a variety of devices. The 232DRIO includes a CD ROM with an instruction manual and demonstration programs written in QuickBASIC and C/C .

      Intelligent and versatile, Model 232BSS4 serial data switch provides communication to four devices from one serial port. Each port contains a dedicated UART and an 8K byte Transmit and Receive buffer, allowing each port’s data rate, data format, and protocol to be configured independently. The Master port can send and receive data from one Slave port while the other Slave ports continue to buffer data. The Master can also broadcast the same message to two or more Slave ports at once. The switch can also be configured to send data automatically to the Master port from each of the Slave ports when data is present with an optional preamble identifying the port. It can also provide two-way communications between the Master port and one Slave port at a time. Switching and control is accomplished through user defined three or four character command strings. These control sequences are stripped from the data stream, making the switch transparent to the Slave devices. Switches can be cascaded to expand the 232BSS4 to more than four ports. Two units can also be used back-to-back to provide automatic connection between devices over a single data channel. LEDs indicate when the unit is powered up and which port is selected to send data to the Master port. Setup software is provided on the included CD and is compatible with Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, and Vista. A 12VDC power supply with a 2.5mm (positive tip) phone jack is required (not included, sold separately). The Master port is a DB25 female connector configured as DCE. This provides a direct connection to an IBM PC compatible or other DTE device. When connecting the Master port to a modem, the Master port of another 232BSS4, or other device configured as DCE, a null modem adapter is required. Slave ports are DB9 male connectors configured as DTE for direct connection to a modem or other DCE device. When connecting the Slave ports to a PC compatible or other DTE device, a null modem adapter is required. Data Format: 7 or 8 Data bits, Even, Odd, or No Parity (Master does not support 7 Data bits with no parity), 1 Stop bit (fixed).
    • BB-9PCDT

      Tap in on a serial data stream and transparently feed another monitor, printer or other device. Model 9PCDT allows an RS-232 port to tap into and check data being transmitted between two other RS-232 ports. DIP switches set programming to monitor the main Transmit and Receive lines individually or together. Choose between monitoring the DCE or DTE port. Also allows the monitoring port to be either DTE or DCE. The DTE connector is male, and DCE and TAP connectors are female.

    • BB-DSLP-PCIE-100

      Model DSLP-PCIE-100, low-profile RS-232 serial PCI Express Card, meets PCI Express Base Specifications V1.1. It can be installed in virtually any available PC system and is compatible with all major operating systems. Users do not need to set jumpers to configure I/O addresses and IRQ locations. The board also supports 5VDC or 12VDC of power from each serial port pins 1, 4, 8 or 9. This can be configured via jumpers on the board. If this power is not required, then normal control signals are available. The default configuration is with the jumpers set to disable the power on these pins.

The PCI-1671UP transfers data over the GPIB at rates in excess of 1.5 million bytes per second using the maximum IEEE-488 specification cable length (2 meters times the # of devices). A 1,024-word FIFO buffer and the advanced REP-INSW ISR data transfer method provide the horsepower required to then transfer the data between the GPIB board and the host computer. The high-speed state machine also provides byte-to-word packing and unpacking, and because words carry twice the information that bytes do, packed data requires fewer bus cycles to transfer the same GPIB information.<BR>The PCI-1671UP adheres to ANSI/IEEE Standard 488-1978. Often referred to as the IEEE-488.2 bus, GPIB bus or HP-IB bus, the GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus) is a standard for instrumentation communication and control for instruments from manufacturers the world over. The GPIB provides handshaking and interface communications over an 8-bit data bus employing 5 control and 3 handshake signals.       Model MMNM9, RS-232 null modem adapter, can be used to connect two DTEs (computer, terminal, printer etc.) directly using a RS-232 serial cable. The original RS-232 standard only defined the connection of DTEs with DCEs (i.e. modems). With a null modem adapter, the Transmit and Receive lines are cross-linked. Depending on the purpose, one or more handshake lines are cross-linked. Several wiring layouts are in use because the null modem connection is not covered by a standard.   • Serial Converters

    Our industrial RS-232 to RS-422 and RS-485 converters are ideally suited for the industrial automation market and other “control panel” applications. Some offer triple isolation and hardened Class 1 Division 2 certification for use in hazardous locations and temperature extremes.

      The 485LDRC is an optically isolated RS-232 to RS-422/485 converter. RS-232 signals interface through a terminal block. RS-422/485 signals and power inputs connect to the terminal block. Terminal blocks are arranged to allow easy wiring inside a control panel. Built-in Automatic Send Data Control circuitry allows quick set-up and eliminates the need for external software drivers to control handshake signals. The converter operates on externally sourced 10-30 VDC power. Optically isolated data lines (2,000 V on input/output) with 500W surge suppression ensure that connected equipment is protected even in the harshest environments. DIN rail mount design snaps on standard 35mm rail and a small form factor fits neatly into tight cabinets. The 485LDRC is ideal for critical industrial communications, factory automation, in-cabinet conversion, warehouse automation, security, and many other applications.

      Model 485CON, RS-232 to RS-485 converter, converts unbalanced, full-duplex RS-232 signals to balanced, full-duplex or half-duplex RS-485 signals. RS-485 is an enhanced version of the RS-422 balanced line standard. It allows multiple drivers and receivers on a two-wire system. The RS-232 port uses a male DB-25P type of connector with pins 2 (TD input) and 3 (RD output) supported. Protective Ground (pin 1) and Signal Ground (pin 7) are also connected. The RS-485 port uses a female DB-25S type of connector with Send Data outputs on pins 2 and 14, and Receive Data inputs on pins 5 and 17. Protective Ground (pin 1) and Signal Ground (pin 7) are connected through to the RS-232 connector. The polarity of the two RS-485 lines must be correct. With no data being sent, the RS-232 line should be negative and the RS-485 "A" terminal should be negative with respect to the "B" terminal. If your equipment uses a " " and "-" naming scheme, in most cases the "A" line will be connected to the "-" and the "B" line will be connected to the " ". The RS-485 driver must be enabled when checking the polarity of the output of a RS-485 driver. On this connector, the RTS input (pin 4), on the RS-232 side must be raised to enable the RS-485 driver. Figure 1 shows how to interconnect two RS-485 converters using two signal wires. The resistors Rt are optional, depending on the line length, baud rate, etc. The resistors should be about the impedance of the line used, which is normally about 120 Ohms each. Termination resistors are installed only at each end of the RS-485 multi-drop network. RTS must be off (low or marking) to receive and on (high or spacing) to transmit. Both RTS’s should not be on at the same time. Although you will not damage anything, the data sent will be garbled. If both RTS lines are off, the line may be floating and random data may appear on the outputs. Your protocol should allow for this if it can happen. Up to 32 receivers can be driven by any one generator. This allows you to put together large systems with many drop points. The termination resistors should be located at approximately opposite ends of the system. An external power supply is required (not included, sold separately).
    • BB-CANFB

      Model BB-BB-CANFB isolates and protects your CAN (Control Area Network) system from component killing surges and transients in noisy and harsh environments. Model BB-CANFB is a copper-to-fiber, fiber-to-copper converter that provides optical isolation for CAN systems. It separates and protects critical segments of the system from the rest of the CAN network. It is protocol independent, allowing it to work with different CAN protocols and frame lengths. Model BB-CANFB converter is used in pairs, one for each side of the fiber. The CAN side is connected to the system via terminal blocks. Fiber is connected via ST connectors (multi-mode). Model BB-CANFB is housed in a rugged DIN rail mountable box, making it easy to install in industrial cabinets. A 10-30 VDC power source is required (not included, sold separately). According to the CAN specification, the CAN network must be terminated at both ends. Networks not properly terminated may have data errors or miss the data completely. Model BB-CANFB creates two new ends on the CAN network. Space is provided on the board for a termination resistor, R8. A 120 Ohm resistor is recommended for termination. If the BB-CANFB is not at the end of the network, it should not be terminated. Model BB-CANFB is bit-wise enabled, allowing it to automatically adjust for different baud rates. Bit-wise enable only enables the driver on every low bit received. It also disables the driver on the receive side for the low bit plus a maximum of 2µ sec. This prevents data from echoing back from the BB-CANFB, but allows the nodes to respond back. The maximum fiber length used depends on the baud rate, the BB-CANFB, and length of copper wire used. The CAN bus requires a response in one bit time.
    • BB-485LP9TB

      Model 485LP9TB is a port-powered, two-channel converter. It converts TD and RD RS-232 lines to balanced RS-485 signals. The unit can be powered from the RS-232 handshake lines, DTR and RTS. If port-powering the unit, one of these handshake lines must be asserted (high) in order to power the unit (See Table 1). DTR must be asserted to receive data. The RS-485 driver is enabled when RTS is asserted and disabled when RTS is disasserted. The RS-485 receiver is disabled when the driver is enabled and is enabled when the driver is disabled. To maximize the amount of power available to the RS-485 driver, the RS-232 handshake lines are not looped back (tied together). As a result, the following handshake lines will appear as disasserted (low): CTS, DCD, and DSR. Care should be taken to ensure that any software being used does not require any of these handshake lines be asserted. If existing software requires any of the handshake lines to be asserted, you can loop back the required handshake lines in your cable. RS-485 is an enhanced version of the RS-422 Standard allowing multiple drivers and receivers on a two-wire system. The RS-232 port has a female DB-25 connector with pins 2 (TD), 3 (RD), and 7 (Signal Ground) supported. Pins 4 (RTS) and 5 (CTS) are tied together, and pins 6 (DSR), 8 (CD), and 20 (DTR) are also tied together. Pins 1 (Frame Ground) and 7 (Signal Ground) are connected straight through to the RS-485 terminal blocks. The 485CSP2 has two LEDs, a Transmit Enable LED to show when the RS-485 driver is enabled, and a Receive Data LED showing data appearing at pin 3 of the RS-232 port. These are very useful for determining if data is getting through the converter. Note that the Transmit Enable LED indicates only that the 485 driver is enabled, data must be present on pin 2 of the 232 side for data to be transmitted out of the 485 side. If no data is present, no data will be transmitted even though the Transmit Enable LED is illuminated. The RS-485 terminal blocks support Transmit Data (A) and (B), Receive Data (A) and (B), Frame Ground, Signal Ground, and 12 VDC input. A 12 VDC external power supply is required(not included, sold separately). For the protection properties on Model BB-485CSP2 to work, the Frame Ground terminal block or pin 1 on the RS-232 side must be connected directly to a good frame (chassis, green wire, or earth) ground. This must be a low impedance connection for Model BB-485CSP2 to be effective.

The converter provides 1,500 Volts RMS optical isolation for data lines and ground (and connected devices) between the RS-232 and RS-422/485 signals. RS-232 port has a female DB9 connector. RS-422/485 port has a 6-position terminal block. The RS-232 side of the converter draws power from the handshake lines (DTR, RTS). Pins 4 (RTS) and 5 (CTS) are tied together. Pins 6 (DSR), 8 (CD), and 20 (DTR) are tied together, but not passed through the converter. The RS-485 port has a male DB25P connector with Send Data outputs on pins 2 and 14, and Receive Data inputs on pins 3 and 16, or 5 and 17. No special software requirements are needed since the RS-485 driver is enabled by the first transition on the RS-232 side of the Transmit Data line (Pin 2). Any transmission on the TD line keeps the RS-485 driver enabled by preventing the mono-stable multi-vibrator from timing out. The transmitter is disabled approximately 1 ms after the last transmitted character. This 1 ms timeout allows continuous transmission of data at 9600 baud or higher.       Three Versatile Powering Options Model 485BAT3 features power versatility, making it perfect for field testing solutions. It can be powered in three ways: batteries, port powered, or external power supply (not included, sold separately).  Use the battery power option with a low power RS-232 port (found on many laptops) or no handshake lines or when it is inconvenient to use a power supply. Model 485BAT3 will draw as much power as possible from the RS-232 port and get any additional current necessary from the batteries. If you have a full power-port and all your handshake lines, turn off the battery switch. This allows you to run full port-powering and saves the batteries for emergencies. Note: The battery On/Off switch conserves battery life. It does not turn on and off all power to the unit. Lastly, a stripped and tinned 12VDC external power supply may be used.       Model 422TTL converts RS-422 or EIA-530 signals to 5V TTL at data rates up to 115.2 kbps. Two channels are used to convert RS-422 to TTL and two channels are used to convert TTL to RS-422. A DB25 male connector is used on the TTL side and a DB25 female connector is used on the RS-422/EIA-530 side. The converter supports RD, TD, RTS, and CTS. Pin 7 is signal ground for both connectors. The converter supports baud rates up to 115.2 kbps. Open pads are provided for each line. If desired, you can change the pin connectors for any of the 4 channels. The isolator supports RS-232 data signals up to 115.2 kbps as well as RTS and CTS handshake lines. Model 232SPHI4 provides 4000 Volts isolation between sides — twice the rating of most isolators. DTE device connections are made through a DB-25 female. DCE device connections are made through a DB-25 male. The two sides of the isolator are powered independently to maintain isolation. Both sides can draw power from the RS-232 data and handshake lines, eliminating external powering requirements in nearly all systems. If the isolator is to be used with low power ports or when no handshake lines are available, external power can be supplied to either side or both (power supply not included, sold separately).       Model BB-CANOP increases the node capacity of CAN (Control Area Network) systems while protecting CAN networks from component destroying surges and transients. The BB-CANOP provides 2,000 VDC of optical isolation to separate and protect critical segments of the system from the rest of the CAN Network. It is protocol independent, allowing it to work with different CAN protocols and frame lengths. According to the CAN specification, the CAN network must be terminated at both ends. Networks that are not properly terminated may experience data errors or miss data completely. The BB-CANOP creates two new ends to the CAN network. Space is provided on the board for a termination resistor on each side, R6 and R8 (120 Ohm resistor recommended). If the BB-CANOP is not at the end of the network, it should not be terminated. Model BB-CANOP is bit-wise enable, allowing it to automatically adjust for different baud rates. Bit-wise enable only enables the driver on every low bit received. It also disables the driver on the receive side for the low bit plus a maximum of 2µ seconds. This prevents data from echoing back from the BB-CANOP, but allows the nodes to respond back. A 10-30 VDC external power source is required (not included, sold separately).
    • BB-485FPP

      Single stage surge protectors offer a high degree of protection with Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) for each protected line. Model 485FPP has 600W Transient Voltage Suppressors to clamp voltages without adversely affecting normal RS-422/485 data. Fast-acting 125 mA PCB fuses to protect RS-422 and RS-485 circuits against transient voltages that are too long or too large for normal suppression. The 485FPP has 4 wires and terminal blocks for easy installation inline between the data cables – as close as possible to the serial port. Once a fuse is blown, the unit should be disposed and replaced.

      Model 232SP9 protects RS-232 ports from damage caused by large voltage peaks from lightning and other power problems. The surge protector uses 600W Transient Voltage Suppressors to protect all 9 pins. It has one DB9 male and one DB9 female connector with all 9 pins passing straight through. The TVSs are connected between the ground screw and pins 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. The 232SP9 will suppress any voltage levels above 12 Volts without affecting the normal RS-232 data. The 232SP9 is placed inline, between the data cable and the RS-232 port, as close to the protected port as possible. The ground screw must be connected to earth ground. A minimum of 12 AWG copper wire is recommended. Model CU15B is 1.5 x 0.016 in (38 x 0.25 mm) copper cut to length for ground connections that are longer than a few feet (one meter). If this device is not properly grounded it will not protect RS-232 lines.
